Carolyn Ballagh –
Acting Deputy Director, Accommodation Services
Hi, my name is Carolyn Ballagh (aka Cas) and I have the privilege of leading Accommodation Services at La Trobe University.
Collectively, our teams are passionate about developing and delivering a range of programs and events that support your academic achievement, social awareness and personal development. So whether it’s grabbing the runners for boot camp, heading to the reef, connecting in for a chat, advancing your educational journey or engaging with an inspirational speaker – we have it covered. We are also dedicated to offering a high level of customer support and welcome your feedback throughout your stay in residence.
Additionally, operating at the heart of the on campus experience and helping to make our residents time on campus awesome, we have a team of approximately 120 ‘Student Leaders’ across Bundoora, Bendigo and Albury/Wodonga.
For me professionally and personally, it is such a pleasure to be part of growing Accommodation Services at La Trobe.
A bit about my educational background. Previous to this role, I traversed through a few tertiary environments – having established skills in student services, student welfare, advocacy, event management and leadership. Certainly, the connection point within each portfolio has been the ability to drive programs and services focused on the engagement and enrichment of the student experience, to build strong communities and to be a little bit creative along the way. During my time in the University sector, I have completed a Bachelor of Arts followed by a Grad. Dip. of Counselling and specialist training in mediation, conflict resolution and investigation. I am also embarking on a Master of Leadership this year.
Outside of La Trobe…well, I have two amazing kids. The eldest son is now in size 11 shoes and his third year of high school (and has officially just surpassed me in height) and the youngest is in grade three. Both are busily involved in various sporting and outdoor activities.
When I take time out, I enjoy walking with my dog as the sun rises, enjoying the occasional brewed chai and spending time with my family and friends.
Daniel Robinson –
Manager, Regional Operations, Accommodation services
Hi, I’m Daniel Robinson, Manager of Regional Operations for Accommodation Services.
Our team is dedicated to providing accommodation services to over 600 student residents throughout regional Victoria including Bendigo, Mildura, Shepparton, Melton and Ballarat.
I join the Accommodation Services team, bringing broad experience from outdoor leadership, overseas expedition leadership, teaching and senior management in the not-for-profit sector. I have a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning, and I am currently studying my MBA.
During my undergraduate days I was heavily involved in student life. I helped out with editing the student newspaper, with booking bands to play on-campus and performed with the student theatre company. I also took up the opportunity to study abroad and finished my Arts degree by studying my final semester in Madrid.
I was, and remain passionate, about helping students make the successful transition from secondary to tertiary education and I believe that getting involved with all that’s on offer is a great way to achieve this. I urge you all to drop into see us and visit the BSA regularly to find out what’s on and you can get the most out of your student experience.
I run, ride, paddle, swim, ski, snowboard and play all my spare time away, either on my own, with friends or with my young family. I’m active and like to explore – particularly after fresh snowfall!
I’m committed to continuing to develop and improve all aspects of accommodation services, to creating an incredible student experience and to providing safe and comfortable facilities for everyone. I look forward to the year ahead and to helping you make the most of your time with us at La Trobe.
Georgia Irvine –
Community Engagement and Academic Excellence Coordinator
Hi, my name is Georgia Irvine and I am a Residential Education Coordinator for Community Engagement and Community Standards.
My roles include the Community Engagement of students and the Community Standards of Accommodation Services, I aim to deliver a range of diverse and balanced activities and programs for residents by coordinating events and initiatives within the residential community.
A bit about my background – I attended La Trobe University and undertook a Bachelor of Education, I have been an Academic Mentor, Academic Coordinator and Social Club Coordinator. I have been fortunate enough to have been a part of this team for four years now. My passion lies with creating the best student experience for you as a first year or a returning student! We look forward to meeting you in 2019!
Brenda Howell –
Customer Experience Officer
Hello, I’m Brenda and I am deemed the ‘veteran’ of the office, not only because of my age but I am also the longest serving member in the accommodation office.
I am the first point of contact when you phone or come to the accommodation office. I’m the person you love because I send you an SMS to tell you that ‘YOU HAVE MAIL’ and consequently I know lots of students, on a first name basis, because they have lots of parcels delivered (you know who you are!!).
